BADSEY: Young child dies after being found in water

West Mercia Police said officers had responded to reports of a missing child in Badsey, Worcestershire, on Wednesday evening (July 29).

Police have confirmed the “incredibly tragic” news after the child was found unresponsive in the water and, a short time later, was pronounced dead, adding there was no third-party involvement in the child’s death and urging people to avoid speculating online. A report will be prepared for the coroner.

They also said they would not be identifying the child’s gender out of respect for the family.

“This is an incredibly tragic incident. We ask the public to avoid speculation online as this is incredibly distressing to the family and we ask that their privacy is respected at such a difficult time.”

Residents reported a large emergency services presence as police carried out searches in the village. The child was found unresponsive in the water and, despite the best efforts of paramedics and police officers, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called to reports of an incident in Badsey at 6.50 pm yesterday.

“One ambulance, two paramedic officers and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car attended the scene.

“On arrival, we discovered one patient, a young child. Ambulance staff and police worked quickly to treat the patient, but sadly, it became apparent nothing could be done to save them, and they were confirmed dead at the scene.”
